The Good, The Bad and The Wi-Fi

wifi_logoI recently returned from a trip to Greece and noticed a great deal of change in how travellers and backpackers alike use the internet.

Even then, it wasn’t very difficult to find internet access in even some of the smaller European cities. The growth of wi-fi in particular, has meant that you now rarely need to leave your hotel (or pay) to access the internet, but how reliable is it?

iPhone 3GS | Palm Pre | Three Strikes Law | Pirate Party – Week in Review #3

This weeks post is a little late, but with good reason…

iPhone 3GS
Apple is holding their annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, opening with their heavily anticipated keynote speech. The big announcement… a new iPhone to be released! Reaching our shores June 26th. The iPhone 3GS will look quite similar to the current iPhone but will include features such as a 3 mega-pixel camera that can take video, faster hardware and voice control. Now the question remains, to upgrade, or not to upgrade?

Palm Pre
Earlier this week Palm released their long awaited iPhone killer, the Palm Pre. The product has generally been welcomed to warm reviews, but with the announcement of Apple’s new iPhone, it’s looking like less of a threat. It does however provide a decent option for people not willing to give in to the iPhone craze. Success is important for the company that struggled to make it into the mobile market.

‘Three Strikes’ French Internet Law
I wrote a post last month discussing the law France was attempting to pass that would essentially allow the government to block users internet access if they were suspected of downloading or sharing files illegally. This law has now been passed, despite the EU parliament declaring that these laws would be prohibited amongst EU members.

Pirate Party joins EU Parliament
The Swedish Pirate Party has garnished enough votes in a recent election to gain a parliamentary seat in the EU. The increase in votes has come as a result of the great deal of publicity The Pirate Bay trial received earlier in the year.
