Remember Kazaa? Now They Offer Legal Downloads

kazaa_logoRemember Kazaa? That program many of us used to download music illegally (not me of course). Well they’re making a comeback, but this time it’s legal. Kazaa have moved away from a P2P platform and moved to an online music store where users are able to purchase their music legally.

The Day the Music Died… and Almost Took the Internet With It

michael_jackson25th June 2009 (26th in Australia), a day that won’t soon be forgotten. The death of Michael Jackson, the undisputed King of Pop, sent hundreds of thousands of people around the world to the internet to try and find out the truth… was the superstar really dead.

I was on my way to work when I read the news on my iPhone that he had been rushed to hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. As usual my first move was to post the news on Twitter and see what others were saying. People were claiming Michael Jackson had died, but I tried not to believe it until I had seen it confirmed on one of the major news outlets. It wasn’t long before confirmation was made and I had friends and family calling to share the news and their empathy. I had purchased tickets to see Michael Jackson’s concert in London.

French ‘Three Strikes’ Law Rejected…again

access-denied-againThe ‘three strikes’ law passed by the French Parliament a few weeks ago has now been rejected by the French Constitutional Council. Finally, some sense, but for how long.

When the law was first voted on by the French National Assembly, it was rejected, only to be passed when it came time for them to vote on the law a second time around. The law was passed despite the EU disallowing such regulations among their members, only to now be disapproved by the French themselves.

iPhone 3GS | Palm Pre | Three Strikes Law | Pirate Party – Week in Review #3

This weeks post is a little late, but with good reason…

iPhone 3GS
Apple is holding their annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, opening with their heavily anticipated keynote speech. The big announcement… a new iPhone to be released! Reaching our shores June 26th. The iPhone 3GS will look quite similar to the current iPhone but will include features such as a 3 mega-pixel camera that can take video, faster hardware and voice control. Now the question remains, to upgrade, or not to upgrade?

Palm Pre
Earlier this week Palm released their long awaited iPhone killer, the Palm Pre. The product has generally been welcomed to warm reviews, but with the announcement of Apple’s new iPhone, it’s looking like less of a threat. It does however provide a decent option for people not willing to give in to the iPhone craze. Success is important for the company that struggled to make it into the mobile market.

‘Three Strikes’ French Internet Law
I wrote a post last month discussing the law France was attempting to pass that would essentially allow the government to block users internet access if they were suspected of downloading or sharing files illegally. This law has now been passed, despite the EU parliament declaring that these laws would be prohibited amongst EU members.

Pirate Party joins EU Parliament
The Swedish Pirate Party has garnished enough votes in a recent election to gain a parliamentary seat in the EU. The increase in votes has come as a result of the great deal of publicity The Pirate Bay trial received earlier in the year.

‘Three Strikes and Out’ French Internet Law Approved

access-denied-approvedThe French have gone and done it. The plan, by mini President Sarkozy, to disconnect users internet connection if they’re found downloading or sharing files illegally was approved by the same assembly that initially rejected it. The law, commonly referred to as the ‘three strikes’ law, will mean that pirates will be given two chances to stop their illegal behaviour before having their internet connection cut off. This is despite the EU deciding that such laws are prohibited among EU members.
